AmaZulu’s pursuit of a new striker is intensifying, according to the club’s co-coaches.
Following the acquisition of Bongani Zungu and Sandile Mthethwa last month, co-coach Vusi Vilakazi expressed the pressing need for a permanent striker, given that top scorer Etiosa Ighodaro is currently on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns. This loan arrangement prohibits Ighodaro from competing against his parent club, as seen in the recent matchup.
As per reports from Sportswire, AmaZulu is targeting Lynoth Chikua from Highlanders FC in Zimbabwe and Denis Kibu from Simba SC in Tanzania.
Integrating Chikua into the squad could be rather straightforward, since his contract with the Zimbabwean side concluded on 31 December. The 2024 Castle Premier League Golden Boot winner, who scored 17 goals, is also being pursued by Magesi FC, which is languishing at the bottom of the Betway Premiership standings.
Conversely, acquiring Kibu might prove to be a more challenging endeavor. Simba SC coach Fadlu Davids is keen to retain the player, who has notched three goals in just four CAF Confederation Cup appearances this season.
Currently sitting in 11th place in the Betway Premiership with 12 points from 10 matches, AmaZulu has heavily relied on attacking midfielder Hendrick Ekstein for goal support. Ekstein scored a vital goal in their recent victory over Cape Town City, bringing his total to four for the season.
The team’s next fixture is the Durban Derby against Golden Arrows at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday at 15:30.
