Ambitions on Two Fronts

Nathan Aspinall is striving to secure his inaugural world title at Ally Pally.

Nevertheless, the scenario could have unfolded quite differently, as the native of Stockport initially aimed for a career in football during his youth.

The Asp revealed to Sky Sports: “I was once scouted for the Manchester United goalkeeping Academy, which had ties with United and several other clubs.”

“At the age of nine, I received offers of contracts from Rangers, played for Stockport County, and had trials there.”

“Every child harbors dreams of becoming a footballer, and that was my goal.”

“It didn’t turn out as I envisioned, but I did play semi-professionally and discovered my love for darts.”

“Had I been a bit taller, I might have made it. I was released because the club deemed me too short to be a goalkeeper.”
