KOBBIE MAINOO’s impressive display stood out as Manchester United suffered their fourth defeat in a row.

Newcastle scored twice in the opening 19 minutes, threatening to rack up a cricket score at Old Trafford.

Noussair Mazraoui was repeatedly targeted on the right side, while United’s faltering midfield duo of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen struggled to keep pace.

Upon entering the match in the 33rd minute, Mainoo promptly remedied the midfield challenges.

Casemiro had a stroke of luck not being substituted then, as Ruben Amorim instead decided to replace the Old Trafford scapegoat Joshua Zirkzee.

The Dutch forward has had a tough time since his summer transfer and struggled to make a single pass against Newcastle.

Nonetheless, few players in red stood out, as many vied for the title of worst performer.

Here’s how SunSport’s Kealan Hughes evaluated the United team’s performance.

Andre Onana – 5

Had little opportunity with either goal and was otherwise rarely tested.

Noussair Mazraouri – 4

Both early goals originated from his flank, as he was unable to stop the crosses finished by Isak and Joelinton.

However, he was proactive with the ball and delivered a couple of dangerous crosses.

Matthijs de Ligt – 5

Did not make any crucial errors for Newcastle’s goals but faced criticism for failing to coordinate his defensive partners.

Harry Maguire – 4

Failed to track Isak for the opening goal and got caught ball watching.

Almost made up for it, but his diving header struck the post.

Lisandro Martinez – 3

Completely outmatched while contesting a cross that Joelinton finished.

Moreover, he lost sight of Isak for the first goal and was even turned the wrong way when the cross arrived.

Diogo Dalot – 5

Provided essential stability on the left side and created a good cross for Maguire’s headed chance.

Casemiro – 3

Had a poor overall performance. Completely off the pace and barely completed a successful pass.

Missed a prime opportunity to score just before halftime.

Christian Eriksen – 4

Equally ineffective in supporting his defense as Casemiro, often being outnumbered.

He did manage to string together a few passes and appeared better after Mainoo’s introduction.

Amad Diallo – 4

Had a tough night against the hard-working Anthony Gordon and Lewis Hall, which limited his impact.

Joshua Zirkzee – 2

Struggled a lot, with fans quickly losing patience. Substituted in the 33rd minute to cheers from the Old Trafford supporters.

Rasmus Hojlund – 5

Starved of support but kept working hard and was a rare source of positivity – nearly scored with a low shot that just missed the target in the first half.
