Kaizer Chiefs’ head coach Nasreddine Nabi expressed his dissatisfaction upon discovering that the team only managed to secure seven wins in 2024.

He highlighted that his primary responsibility was to rehabilitate the club after a disappointing previous season and emphasized that expecting immediate results was not realistic.

Nabi also mentioned that he could not comment on the previous coaching staff during the season, as the Chiefs wrapped up the 2024 campaign with a victory against Chippa United in the Betway Premiership at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Sunday.

Nevertheless, this victory marked Chiefs’ seventh win out of 28 matches across all competitions in 2024, with two wins in the 2023/24 season, four in the current league season, and one in cup play, a commanding 4-0 victory over SuperSport United in the first round of the Carling Knockout Cup.

When informed of the seven wins in 2024, Nabi, who took the helm in June, stressed that he was appointed for a long-term project due to the club finishing outside the top eight the previous season.

“Honestly, why can’t you understand that I am here for this project?” he responded when questioned by Sportswire.

“Why does the media refuse to accept this? Let me ask you, why do you dismiss it? Because it might not suit you, the media.

“You need to elicit reactions from the public. If I talk about the process of team development, you shouldn’t incite reactions from fans for your own gain; that’s not fair.

“You only focus on the results – ‘why are you winning just one match’? I’m here for the long-term goal, everyone. I believe in the vision for Kaizer Chiefs, and I know that may not be what you want to hear.

“Why? Because before I came, you listened to me when I mentioned development. You don’t like discussing the building process. But I’m here to build – do you want that or not? Do you understand me?

“If you talk about other reactions, it suggests I’m not the right coach. Listen, I spoke to you in June and September; I came here to develop this season. We need to implement steps, and each step has specific goals, evaluations, and scientific approaches. Now you want ‘I want to win every game!’

“That’s not the appropriate way to approach this. We have confidence in this project and are committed to making it a success.

“Considering you mention seven wins in a year when there were previous coaches before us, I don’t think we need to respond to those who came before.”

The win against Chippa elevated Chiefs to seventh place in the Betway Premiership standings, accumulating 15 points from 10 matches, surpassing both Chippa United and Golden Arrows.
