A DARTS player was rushed to the hospital on Christmas Day after sustaining a finger injury while slicing ham.
Jermaine Wattimena experienced a tough build-up to his second-round clash against two-time champion Peter Wright.
The Dutch player achieved a significant victory by overcoming James Wade in the second round, before taking a brief respite from the oche over Christmas.
Regrettably, he had an incident while preparing ham for his feast, leading to a cut on his finger.
Wattimena sought medical help for his injury and was later spotted on stage with a bandage on the affected finger.
Sky Sports commentator Glen Durrant commented on Wattimena’s predicament, noting:
“Jermaine Wattimena faced a tough couple of days.
“During Christmas dinner, he sliced his finger on his non-throwing hand while carving the ham and had to be taken to the hospital.”
Wright, his adversary, also encountered challenges in the lead-up to their match.
The 54-year-old was confined to his sofa due to illness, having to interrupt his throws to cough frequently.

Nonetheless, this did not affect his performance, as he returned to near his best, displaying his talents after a challenging year.
Wright achieved his highest average since winning the World Darts Championship title in 2022 and appeared dominant throughout the match, even when Wattimena closed the gap to 3-2.
