After a lackluster first half that ended without goals at Molineux, Bruno Fernandes’ reckless action on a previous yellow card shifted the momentum.

His careless foul on Nelson Semedo just a minute and a half into the second half led referee Tony Harrington to issue a red card, marking his third early exit this season.

This event invigorated Wolves, giving them the initiative to clinch the victory.

Matheus Cunha scored directly from a corner, followed by Hwang Hee-chan’s second goal during injury time in the 99th minute.

As the match reached its conclusion, Harrington’s whistle confirmed Ruben Amorim’s side’s third defeat in just one week, which followed their Carabao Cup elimination against Spurs and a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

This latest loss sparked frustration among many traveling fans who came to the West Midlands for the Boxing Day clash.

Jeers and boos reverberated from the away supporters as United finds itself positioned 14th in the Premier League table.

With 22 points amassed from 18 matches, their record includes six wins, four draws, and eight losses, accompanied by a goal difference of -3.

They are now 17 points behind the league leaders, Liverpool, and alarmingly, are just eight points above 18th-placed Leicester before their delayed game later that day at Anfield.

The discontent extended beyond the stadium walls as well.

Online, fans rapidly voiced their growing concerns regarding the team’s performance yet again.

One commenter stated: “Another frustrating and disappointing match to watch. The team looks mediocre and devoid of ideas and creativity. Amorim has a monumental challenge ahead.”

Another added: “You owe Erik ten Hag an apology. This is genuinely humiliating.”

A third commented: “Terrible display.”

A fourth user echoed: “This is the worst I’ve seen my club in 30 years.”

And a final fan inquired: “How long until Amorim gets the sack?”

The challenges only increase for the Red Devils as they prepare to face Newcastle, Liverpool, and Arsenal in their upcoming three fixtures.

Manchester United player ratings vs Wolves

By Ken Lawrence

WOLVES pulled off a surprising upset on Boxing Day while Manchester United’s struggles continued.

The 2-0 defeat signifies that Ruben Amorim has managed just two wins in seven Premier League games in charge.

United now sits at 14th place, heavily impacted by Fernandes’ red card and Andre Onana conceding a goal directly from a corner.

Here’s how SunSport rated the players’ performances…

ANDRE ONANA: 4

He made a vital save from Jorgen Strand Larsen in the first half but misjudged the trajectory of Cunha’s corner for the opening goal – his claims of obstruction by Matt Doherty were ignored by the referee.

LENY YORO: 5

Having been recalled, he picked up a booking after just four minutes for a foul on Cunha, which placed him under pressure as Wolves targeted him. He was substituted shortly after the hour mark.

HARRY MAGUIRE: 6

The England international worked to keep United competitive during a tense match – he managed to slow the pressure until late and had a header on target in injury time.

LISANDRO MARTINEZ: 6

He built a solid partnership with Maguire, making it more difficult for Wolves to secure an easier win. He showed resilience and made crucial interventions late in the game before Wolves took advantage of a counter-attack.

NOUSSAIR MAZRAOUI: 5

Committed and determined, but struggled against the standout performer of the match – Cunha.

MANUEL UGARTE: 5

Gave away possession too easily at times and faced a tough Wolves frontline; he was substituted after Fernandes’ dismissal.

KOBBIE MAINOO: 5

Showed early promise, creating a few good chances, but received a booking after halftime, and his impact dwindled as the team lacked ideas. He was then substituted.

DIOGO DALOT: 6

Generated a remarkable save from Jose Sa in the first half, providing one of United’s few bright moments, but failed to influence the overall disappointing team performance.

AMAD DIALLO: 5

Demonstrated a lack of awareness regarding his teammates and appeared far from the impactful player he had been during the Manchester derby two weeks ago.

BRUNO FERNANDES: 3

Sent off shortly after the second half began for a second yellow card resulting from a foul on Nelson Semedo; he had already seemed frustrated prior to his dismissal.

RASMUS HOJLUND: 5

Displayed clear frustration at the lack of service from his teammates, struggled to make an impact up front, and was substituted with ten minutes left.

SUBSTITUTES

Casemiro (for Mainoo, 63 mins): 6

Christian Eriksen (for Ugarte, 63 mins): 6

Antony (for Yoro, 63 mins): 6

Alejandro Garnacho (for Amad, 79 mins): 5

Joshua Zirkzee (for Hojlund, 79 mins): 5

Despite this troubling run of three consecutive losses, Amorim tried to maintain an optimistic outlook.

He stated: “Naturally, losing and not winning feels like a setback. The sending off made it exceptionally difficult.

The goal reminded me of our match against Tottenham. We persevered even with one player less, but then Wolves scored their second.

In the end, we gave it our all, yet the transition resulted in a 2-0 defeat. We must continue to push forward.”
