Magesi FC has appointed ex-Orlando Pirates coach Owen da Gama as their new head coach.

Da Gama succeeds Clinton Larsen, who resigned following a 3-0 defeat to All Stars in the Carling Cup last weekend.

This loss was Magesi’s fourth consecutive defeat since their impressive victory against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout Cup final. Sitting at the bottom of the league standings with only six points from nine matches, Magesi urgently needs a turnaround.

Initially, Papi Zothwane was named interim coach after Larsen’s departure, but the club has decided to bring in the experienced da Gama.

“Owen da Gama has officially joined Magesi FC,” a representative from Sportswire confirmed.

Da Gama, who has previously coached teams such as Platinum Stars, Highlands Park, TS Galaxy, and Black Leopards, will begin his role immediately. He will work alongside the current coaching team, which includes fitness trainer Pedro Picarro and goalkeeper coach Fiston Kabwanga—both of whom were appointed by Larsen.

Da Gama’s first match in charge will be a challenging encounter against his former club, Orlando Pirates, taking place on Sunday at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, starting at 15:30.
