The Asp, 33, has dramatically changed his family’s life by raking in millions from the sport in recent years.

The increasing popularity and promotion of the sport can be credited to the rising star Luke Littler, who is managed by the same group as Aspinall.

Aspinall, a two-time major champion from Stockport, mentions that it is now rare for him to go out without being asked for a selfie.

He compares this attention to that experienced by Jimmy White, Steve Davis, Alex Higgins, and Tony Knowles during snooker’s ascent in popularity around 40 years ago.

Barry Hearn and his Matchroom stable even released a chart-topping song with Chas & Dave in 1986.

Aspinall is gearing up to take on Andrew Gilding in the third round of the PDC World Championship this Friday afternoon after having defeated Leonard Gates.

The Asp noted: “Being in the spotlight is tough.

“I think we are similar to the snooker players of the 80s, who mingled with rock legends like Guns N’ Roses.

“Now, everyone wants to connect with darts players. The sport’s popularity is undeniable, and this surge is partly due to the 17-year-old Luke Littler.

“Players like myself, Michael Smith, and Gezzy Price are very approachable for fans.

“A night out in Manchester on a Friday is wild.

“It’s remarkable, but I try to keep a positive perspective. It’s unbelievable how far darts has come. I never considered myself a celebrity until this year, yet it seems that I am.

“People truly enjoy meeting me and snapping photos.

“The recent accomplishments of Littler and Luke Humphries have been phenomenal.

“Every player I know in the top 16 recognizes their impact, as it paves the way for our success and financial gains.

“As for my connections with rock stars? I’m good friends with the members of The Blossoms.

“We attended school together. The main distinction now is the role that social media plays, right?”
