RUBEN AMORIM faced the toughest defeat of his short stint as Man Utd manager, enduring an unexpected 3-0 loss to Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
His squad was consistently outperformed by Andoni Iraola’s Cherries.
SunSport’s Ian Whittell has provided his assessments for the Man United team…
Andre Onana – 5
Showed signs of uncertainty on the ball, with his hesitation in retaining possession evident to United fans.
It was a challenging day for the keeper, highlighted by a few shaky moments that required him to make two attempts to collect long-range shots.
Noussair Mazraoui – 4
Demonstrated considerable frustration over the penalty he gave away, yet justifying his actions proved to be a challenge.
He seemed caught off guard and panicked, bringing down Justin Kluivert from behind, which compounded an already lackluster performance.
Harry Maguire – 4
Frequently found himself second to the ball and struggling to mark his opponents, as Evanilson managed to evade him too easily.
Ruben Amorim believes Maguire fits into his three-at-the-back system, but opinions on that issue remain divided.
Lisandro Martinez – 5
Failed to react as Semenyo netted Bournemouth’s third goal, marking another defensive blunder for United.
Like many of his defensive colleagues, he seems to be struggling to adapt to the new system and is faltering on even the basics.
Diogo Dalot – 6
Delivered a few solid blocks and sought to support attacking plays from the wing-back role, although his influence was limited.
On a day when United’s defense faltered again, he wasn’t the primary offender.
Manuel Ugarte
Received a yellow card for a cynical foul on Kluivert and often struggled to match the pace of Bournemouth’s attackers.
Much of the match eluded him, and he was substituted before the hour mark as United aimed to change their fortunes.
Kobbie Mainoo – 6
Despite committing some unforced errors like many teammates, his effort and determination stood out.
He created a crucial opportunity by dispossessing Dean Huijsen to set up Bruno Fernandes, but also lost possession that led to Bournemouth’s third goal.
Tyrell Malacia – 3
A bad touch early on provoked groans from the home fans, signaling the start of several careless errors from the returning full-back.
It was no surprise that he conceded the free-kick from which the visitors scored first, resulting in his substitution at halftime.
Amad Diallo – 7
Benefited from the Rashford controversy, having a chance to ignite excitement at Old Trafford early, though he squandered a good opportunity by shooting directly at the keeper.
While not matching his derby display, he still seemed to be United’s most viable option for creating a goal.
Bruno Fernandes – 8
Now playing higher and wider on the pitch, raising questions about the optimal use of his undeniable talents.
In the last five minutes of the first half alone, he had three promising opportunities that could have leveled the score.
Joshua Zirkzee – 5
Awarded a start ahead of Rasmus Hojlund for his recent strong performances, this match did not meet expectations.
He was nearest to Dean Huijsen during the scoring play, yet United’s chaotic defense made it unclear if he bore responsibility.
Substitutes
Leny Yoro (for Malacia, 46) – 4
Entered as part of a much-needed defensive overhaul at halftime by Amorim, but failed to establish any stability.
Alejandro Garnacho (for Ugarte, 54) – 5
Had an opportunity when through on goal just after Bournemouth’s third strike but shot straight at Kepa.
Rasmus Hojlund (for Zirkzee, 54) – 6
Showed some promise for a potential goal and managed to force Kepa into a notable save.
Substitutes (not used): Altay Bayindir, Casemiro, Toby Collyer, Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans, Antony.
