Resolute Postecoglou, whose fragile defense has let in 13 goals in their last three home games, remarked: “I’m simply going to stop responding to these questions.”

He pointed to injuries affecting goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, along with center-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

Tottenham’s starting left-back Destiny Udogie also came off the bench as Arne Slot’s swift side took control in North London.

The Australian said: “If people can’t grasp the obvious, I’m not going to spell it out. Interpret it however you like; yes, we’re conceding goals.

“If you choose to overlook the fact we’re missing a goalkeeper, two center backs, and a left-back . . .

“I don’t know what else I can say.”

Postecoglou faced further questioning on whether Spurs will benefit from his dedication to an attacking philosophy in the long term.

He responded: “I have exercised remarkable patience over the last 18 months sitting here fielding the same questions repeatedly.

“If people expect me to change my approach, that’s not going to happen.

“We are doing this for a purpose, and we trust that it will lead to success.”

Postecoglou described the heavy defeat as “painful,” leaving Spurs in 11th place, eight points adrift of the top four.

Nonetheless, they remain the top scorers in the league with 39 goals and are in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Even in the midst of the loss, supporters were chanting Postecoglou’s name during the score of 5-2.

On the fans’ reaction, the Tottenham manager remarked: “I thought the fans were fantastic today, especially given the circumstances.

“Some of them seem to understand the challenges we’re currently up against, yet it appears many do not.

“I hope they can see what we are trying to accomplish here because I genuinely believe it will deliver what the club and its supporters seek.”

Postecoglou previously stated that if his team remained in tenth place by Christmas, he would anticipate discontent.

This was said before the injury crisis, but this latest defeat has pushed his side into the bottom half of the standings.

He concluded: “All I can do is navigate us through this tough period.

“If being in tenth means I’m underperforming and should feel concerned, then that’s for others to determine.”
