In preparation for their upcoming match against Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday, Marumo Gallants, a Betway Premiership team, have bolstered their coaching staff.
The latest addition is Willy Moloto, the former assistant coach of the DStv Diski Challenge, who will work alongside Sundra Govinder and Duncan Lechesa.
Govinder, who was recently dismissed by Casric Stars, has stepped in as Gallants’ second assistant coach due to head coach Dan Malesela’s temporary absence.
This situation raises questions about the future of Stan Nkoane, the club’s current Diski Challenge coach.
Reports from Sportswire suggest that Nkoane, who made a mark during the Nedbank Cup in the 2019/20 season, is attracting interest from three clubs in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, all of which are presenting enticing offers.
Govinder’s appointment as assistant coach came as a surprise to many in the football community and was confirmed last week alongside Malesela’s leave of absence.
Prior to this announcement, there were rumors of internal struggles within Gallants and speculation regarding Malesela’s potential firing following their recent defeat to Polokwane City.
Malesela, who is in his third term with the club, was brought on board at the last minute during the off-season.
This decision was made after Dylan Kerr resigned, expressing his reluctance to work with co-coaches in the setup.
Gallants recently secured their place in the Betway Premiership by taking the slot from Moroka Swallows during the off-season, and club chairman Abram Sello is dedicated to ensuring that his significant investment does not result in relegation.
At present, Gallants are positioned in 12th place in the Betway Premiership standings, having accumulated 10 points from nine matches.
