FOUR Premier League players will enjoy a stress-free Christmas Day, free from the pressure of a match the following day.

This situation arises from their suspensions, which will prevent them from participating in the customary festive fixtures.

Gameweek 17 will commence on December 26, so clubs will be busy with training and travel on Christmas Day.

However, four players will be sidelined for the matchday due to their suspensions.

A one-match suspension is given to players who accumulate five yellow cards in the first half of the season.

The players meeting this criteria are Nicolas Dominguez, Sam Morsy, Lucas Paqueta, and Ashley Young.

Dominguez will be absent for Nottingham Forest‘s match against Tottenham Hotspur, while Morsy will miss the game against Ipswich Town when they face Arsenal.

Paqueta will not be part of the West Ham squad for their match against Southampton, and Young will be absent from Everton‘s game against Manchester City.

While these players are missing the Boxing Day fixtures, they are scheduled to return before the year ends.

To avoid another suspension due to yellow card accumulation, they must reach a total of 10 cards.

In the meantime, many players may find their last match of 2024 on Boxing Day.

Currently, 44 players are just one yellow card away from their fifth caution of the season, which would result in a one-match suspension.

Manchester United legend Lee Sharpe cautions that Marcus Rashford’s potential departure could prove detrimental to the club if he joins rival Premier League teams.

Players Suspended on Boxing Day

  • Nicolas Domínguez (Nottingham Forest)
  • Sam Morsy (Ipswich)
  • Lucas Paqueta (West Ham)
  • Ashley Young (Everton)

This indicates that any further bookings in their next match will lead to missing games ahead of the New Year.

Arsenal might lose in-form striker Gabriel Jesus and defender Jurrien Timber if they accumulate their fifth yellow cards.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim could face challenges if Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte receive yellows against Wolves.

Liverpool might potentially be without four players in their match against West Ham if Darwin Nunez, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ibrahima Konate get booked during their clash with Leicester City.

On the other hand, Fulham and Brentford can take it easy as none of their players are at risk of suspension.

After gameweek 19, the yellow card suspension resets; players will need to accumulate five more cautions before facing a ban.
