Percy Tau scored one goal and provided an assist as Al Ahly convincingly defeated CR Belouizdad 6-1 during their CAF Champions League Group C match at Cairo International Stadium on Sunday.

Tau, who has faced some scrutiny regarding his performances this season with the Egyptian giants, unleashed a powerful strike from the edge of the box in the 87th minute. He capped off an impressive display by assisting Emam Ashour for Al Ahly’s final goal in stoppage time.

While Tau played a crucial part, the focus was primarily on Wessam Abou Ali, who achieved a hat-trick. Ali started his scoring just prior to halftime and added two more goals in the 51st and 84th minutes. Hussein El Shahat also contributed with a goal in the 56th minute, ensuring a comfortable victory for the record African champions.

Al Ahly’s dominance was particularly impressive given that they initially fell behind, with Aymen Mahious unexpectedly scoring for Belouizdad in the 21st minute. South African forward Khanyisa Mayo, representing Belouizdad, was substituted in the 71st minute while the score was at 3-1 in favor of Al Ahly.

This commanding victory propels Al Ahly back to the top of Group C with seven points, two points ahead of Orlando Pirates. The Pirates, who had previously led with five points after three matches, drew against Stade Abidjan last weekend.

The Champions League action resumes on January 3, with the Pirates hosting Stade Abidjan at home, while Al Ahly will travel to face Belouizdad.
