OLEKSANDR USYK achieved another disputed victory over Tyson Fury, regaining his heavyweight title.
Seven months after their split-decision showdown, this time the scorecards revealed a unanimous 116-112 in favor of Usyk.
The Gypsy King exited the ring in anger, leaving his promoter Frank Warren clearly stunned by the outcome.
Here’s how SunSport’s Wally Downes scored the fight…
Round 1
Fury made his entrance at 11:15 pm local time, flaunting a beard that would make Brian Blessed’s facial hair seem minimal.
While his beard was striking, the sight of his belly when the cameras captured him shirtless in the dressing room was shocking.
His red shorts were pulled so high that much of his midsection was hidden; another inch higher, and the 20st fighter could surely have tucked his nipples down there too.
Fury tried to intimidate Usyk during their final face-off, widening his eyes like a monster, but the champion remained composed.
They exchanged jabs and defended with their lead hands. Usyk landed left punches on Fury’s shaky belly, then connected with a head shot to take the first round. Usyk.
Round 2
Usyk came out strong, landing a scoring one-two to the head as the round began, followed by body shots that included a left that even caused Fury to stumble.
However, the Gypsy King responded with a triple jab and a solid right hand to claim the round.
No evidence yet of the body shots and uppercuts Fury relied on in the mid-rounds of their May encounter. Fury
Round 3
Usyk connected with three jabs to the body and a left upstairs.
Fury struggled to handle the pressure, landing a small check hook and even attempting to switch to a southpaw stance.
But all his threats to skin and cook Usyk went unsupported. Usyk.
Round 4
Fury began strongly with a sharp right hand.
However, Usyk countered with two effective left hands that scored well.
Fury then struck back with a significant right hand that pushed Usyk back.
The uppercut returned and broke through Usyk’s defense. Draw.
Round 5
Fury quickly asserted control with a precisely placed right at the start of the round.
He was subsequently cautioned for throwing rabbit punches as he tried to overpower the champion.
Usyk found himself on the receiving end of a lead left uppercut, followed by body shots, prompting him to retreat and regroup. Fury.
Round 6
Fury found himself in a precarious position. The challenger’s robust physique began to sweat as Usyk consistently targeted it with his dominant left hand.
Then, taking aim at the head, Usyk caught Fury off guard.
The Morecambe giant appeared shaken and anxious, his head rocking back, and he spent the remainder of the round defending. Usyk.
Round 7
A quiet round marked by a sharp one-two from Fury and a single left from Usyk. Draw.
Round 8
A one-two-hook combination worked for Usyk as he set the pace and pressure, while Fury sought to obscure his massive target.
The accidental head clash thankfully resulted in no injuries.
Fury made a lackluster offensive attempt, but Usyk responded with a grin and a shake of his head. Usyk.
Round 9
Fury began to tire under the burden of his weight, and Usyk took advantage by attacking relentlessly.
Fury struggled to move effectively and fell into Usyk’s rhythm. Usyk.
Round 10
Fury landed a rare uppercut and targeted Usyk’s body, claiming the center of the ring, but then absorbed several strikes.
Fury attempted to clinch and drain Usyk’s energy, but a left to the cheek punished him.
Usyk’s powerful left sent sweat flying off Fury’s head.
Fury fought back with an uppercut, but Usyk’s aggressiveness and powerful punches prevailed. Usyk.
Round 11
These final rounds could prove crucial. Usyk was more active while Fury’s uppercut only brushed his guard.
Fury fell prey to a quick combination, and he seemed to lose his momentum.
Usyk remained relentless, bouncing and attacking as Fury, weighing 20st, began to fatigue. Usyk.
Round 12
Fury started off with urgency, aware he needed at least a knockdown, which allowed Usyk to counter efficiently.
A series of three straight punches scored for the Ukrainian star.
Despite this, Fury kept swinging, tugging at his shorts that had slipped down due to sweat from Usyk’s assault.
With a portion of the ungrateful crowd booing, they exchanged blows in the final ten seconds. Usyk.
SunSport’s scorecards: Usyk 118-112 Fury.
