ROY KEANE has revealed that he once gave his former teammate Peter Schmeichel a black eye after a raucous, alcohol-fueled incident.

The ex-Manchester United captain recognized that tensions had “been building for years” prior to the clash between the Premier League legends during a pre-season tour in Asia.

Keane, now 53, returned to his usual seat on Stick to Football‘s Christmas Special, hosted by Sky Bet, alongside Gary Neville, Ian Wright, Jamie Carragher, and Jill Scott.

The discussion turned to Tyson Fury‘s intense training ahead of his rematch this Saturday against Oleksandr Usyk.

While Neville and Scott admitted they have neither thrown nor received a punch, there was keen interest about Keane and Wright’s experiences.

Neville questioned: “When was the last time you fought? Was it with Schmeichel in the corridor in Singapore?”

A reluctant Keane acknowledged: “Yes – he started it! It was self-defense, but indeed, it was a real fight.

“There was definitely alcohol involved and a bit of jetlag. I believe Peter ended up with a black eye. But we trained as usual the following day.

“Peter took it well. Sometimes you have altercations with teammates.

“However, tensions had been mounting between Peter and me for years, and there was notable friction.

“He didn’t apologize, but he suggested he might have approached it differently. There was definitely some animosity; I was returning from an injury.

“With me being the captain and during pre-season, there had been drinking, and several comments were exchanged.”

Keane was in a taxi on the way to a zoo with Nicky Butt when they were called to rejoin the rest of the team at the famous Long Bar in Singapore.

He recollected: “We meant to go for a short while, but we never made it to the zoo. We ended up staying there all day and night.

“If only I had made it to the zoo, none of this would have occurred.”

Wright mentioned his last fight was with Steve Bruce in the tunnel at halftime at Old Trafford after exchanging a few kicks during a match back in 1991.

He later remarked that Bruce is a “great guy,” while Carragher shared that he has never had a significant fight with a teammate at Liverpool.

Earlier, both Keane and Scott expressed surprise at Fury’s revelation of not speaking to his wife Paris and their seven children for three months.

Carragher noted that Fury seems to be making sacrifices following his loss to Usyk in their undisputed championship.
