Golden Arrows and Mabhuti Khenyeza seem to have concluded their separation, as a reliable source has confirmed that he will not be returning to the team.
An insider from Sportswire, close to Khenyeza, disclosed that the coach will not be coming back to the club, prompting Arrows to take action by removing his profile from their website.
A few weeks ago, Arrows released a statement indicating that Khenyeza had been ‘absent from work for a week’ and chose to ‘not comment further on this matter.’
Feeling increasingly exasperated, Khenyeza decided to depart from the club without formally resigning, believing that Arrows would reconsider their stance and cease obstructing his coaching responsibilities.
With no resolution evident, the Sportswire insider confirmed that Khenyeza would not be returning to Arrows, leading to the club’s decision to take down his profile from their website.
Despite achieving back-to-back victories that propelled the team into the top six, Khenyeza felt disheartened by his situation.
Following his departure and absence from daily operations at the club, Arrows appointed Musa Bilankulu and Kagisho Dikgacoi as co-coaches.
However, in their first match in charge last weekend, the duo suffered a defeat against last-placed Richards Bay at home in the Betway Premiership.
This loss saw Arrows slip to seventh place in the league standings, with a total of 13 points from seven matches.
Representatives for Khenyeza are now exploring new opportunities for him in the upcoming year, believing that his successful tenure at Arrows serves as a solid foundation for future coaching roles.
The former Kaizer Chiefs striker, who had two stints playing for the club, was recognized as one of the leading strikers in the PSL, having netted over 100 goals.
He will always be remembered for scoring the fastest goal in the Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Chiefs in November 2007 – just 19 seconds into the game – in front of FIFA dignitaries, including former FIFA President Sepp Blatter, at Kings Park Stadium during the preliminary draw for the 2010 World Cup in Durban.
Another significant achievement for Khenyeza was netting twice as Ajax Cape Town triumphed in the Carling Knockout during the 2008/09 season, defeating Pirates at Chatsworth Stadium.
