AMAD DIALLO departed Manchester City in astonishment after he dramatically changed the outcome of the derby.
The explosive winger was awarded a penalty, which Bruno Fernandes calmly converted in the final moments to draw the match.
Yet, the real highlight was still to come as Amad deftly evaded an oncoming Ederson and executed a precise finish from a tight angle during injury time to clinch an exhilarating victory.
Here’s how SunSport’s Neil Custis evaluated the performances of the Manchester United players…
Andre Onana – 6
He doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. He struggles to assert himself in the box, and as observed midweek against Plzen, his distribution often inadvertently aids the opponent’s attack.
Fortunately, he was not heavily challenged throughout the match.
Lisandro Martinez – 7
Exhibited a more composed style under Amorim compared to his earlier eagerness to channel the ‘Butcher of Amsterdam’ persona from Ajax.
Delivered a brilliant through ball at the end that set up Amad’s decisive goal.
Harry Maguire – 8
Engaged in an impressive contest with Erling Haaland, coming out on top.
The decision to include the former captain for this pivotal match proved wise. He appears to be well-suited for the central role in the back three.
Matthijs de Ligt 78′ – 7
Provided a commendable performance overall. He appeared more comfortable alongside Maguire than with previous center-back partners.
Diogo Dalot – 5
Misjudged his jump, allowing Josko Gvardiol to outmaneuver him for the opening goal by City. Struggled to make a significant impact going forward in his wing-back role.
Bruno Fernandes – 8
Missed a crucial chance after being set up by Hojlund, sending the ball wide. However, when the penalty was awarded, he remained composed under pressure, sending Ederson the wrong way to level the match.
Manuel Ugarte – 7
Positioned in front of the back four, he effectively countered much of Phil Foden’s influence for the home team.
Noussair Mazraoui 78′ – 8
The standout performer among the summer signings. Played as the right wing-back this time and adapted well to the game’s demands. One of United’s top players.
Mason Mount 13′ – 6
Looked visibly distressed when forced to leave the field early. He has struggled with injuries and hasn’t enjoyed a consistent run since joining the club.
Amad Diallo 90′ – 9
A career-defining moment with a sensational winning goal in the derby. A remarkable run to meet Martinez’s pass, followed by a delicate touch past Ederson; despite being slightly mishit, it found the target.
Nearly equalized with a flicked header just prior, which was expertly saved by Ederson.
Displayed quick thinking to intercept Nunes’ back pass, which resulted in the penalty that equalized the match for United.
Rasmus Hojlund 78′ – 6
Most notable for a head-to-head confrontation with Walker, causing City’s player to fall, as well as a minor fall while trying to earn a penalty.
Nonetheless, he provided an excellent through ball to Fernandes that should have secured the equalizer.
Subs
Kobbie Mainoo 13′ – 6
Performed solidly, stepping in to take on a deeper role as Fernandes advanced up the field.
Joshua Zirkzee 78′ – 6
Not necessarily a game-changer, but he managed to retain possession well in the closing moments.
Antony 78′ – 6
Substituted on with the hope of making an impact but appears to be lacking confidence due to limited playing time.
Leny Yoro 78′ – 6
Gradually returning to full fitness after suffering an injury over the summer.
Victor Lindelof 90′ – 6
Did not have the opportunity to make an impact during his brief time on the pitch.
