Arsenal’s emerging talent Myles Lewis-Skelly has shared his aspirations to emulate a player who is leaving the Gunners.

The promising 18-year-old is determined to clinch trophies this season after playing a key role in his team’s 3-2 win against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.

Lewis-Skelly is establishing himself within Mikel Arteta’s first team as a left back, though he has previously shone as a central midfielder in The Hale End academy.

On the same day it was revealed that Kieran Tierney is available for transfer, he shared his insights gained from the Scottish defender.

He expressed: “I’ve tried to emulate [Kieran Tierney].”

“I concentrate on winning my duels, supporting the team defensively, and maintaining stability.”

“He’s an exceptional defender. His recovery runs are remarkable, and I frequently tell him how much I learn from his style.”

“His crossing precision is exceptional because he’s a natural left back.”

“I’ve acquired a wealth of understanding from him.”

Lewis-Skelly made his debut in the Champions League against Monaco last week.

He then received his first full Premier League start against Everton, where he achieved clean sheets in both encounters.

He exhibits impressive ball progression from left back and showcases the maturity developed during his time as a midfielder.

‘Tell me Arteta didn’t say that,’ comments Piers Morgan about Arsenal manager’s ’embarrassing’ trophy assertion

He added: “[I’m strong] on the ball, concentrating on ball retention, and keeping the play simple.”

“I’ve adopted the fundamentals from midfield to left back, which has proven very beneficial.”

It’s undeniably a lot for a young player to manage, especially with Arteta placing such trust in him.

Nonetheless, he remains confident that by the end of the season, Arsenal will still be in contention for trophies.

Arsenal player ratings vs Everton

Arsenal failed to take advantage of Liverpool’s dropped points and were left disappointed by a determined Everton.

Here’s how the players rated:

DAVID RAYA – 6/10

No saves needed. He could have rested in the dressing room for the majority of the 90 minutes.

MYLES LEWIS-SKELLY – 7

Picked up right where he left off mid-week in the Champions League, finding spaces in midfield and efficiently linking defense to attack.

GABRIEL – 6

Made an excellent recovery tackle to intercept Doucoure while Saliba was injured. He was effectively marked during corners with Everton doubling up on him.

WILLIAM SALIBA – 6

Fortunate not to concede when he was out of position, though aside from that, he faced little challenge.

JURRIEN TIMBER – 5

Worked hard to provide pace down the right but lacked influence in attacking scenarios.

DECLAN RICE – 5

Had a rare subdued performance. He did not assert himself apart from a few solid tackles, which led to him being substituted after 62 minutes.

MIKEL MERINO – 6

Showed moments of skill but still needs to adapt to the tempo Arsenal desires in midfield.

MARTIN ODEGAARD – 6

Missed two excellent early chances, dragging his shots wide, as he continued to look off form, just like against Monaco. It was a surprise to see him replaced just after the hour.

BUKAYO SAKA – 7

Shone against Mykolenko as Everton struggled to contain his movement and strength on the ball, although Pickford was in outstanding form with several saves.

Blocked a free header from Havertz near the end of the game.

GABRIEL MARTINELLI – 6

Displayed energy, especially with some runs that kept the 39-year-old Young busy and was thwarted by Pickford from a tight angle.

Was again substituted for Trossard.

KAI HAVERTZ – 6

Didn’t create much of a goal threat but managed to set up Arsenal’s best opportunity with a clever flick for Saka.

SUBS:

ETHAN NWANERI (ODEGAARD, 62) – 6

Had some nice touches and looked for his signature left-footed curled shot.

JORGINHO (RICE, 62) – 6

Took charge of the ball as Arsenal’s primary playmaker from deep.

THOMAS PARTEY (LEWIS-SKELLY, 68) – 5

Had very little influence on the game.

GABRIEL JESUS (MERINO, 68) – 5

Had one threatening cross that Pickford claimed without trouble.

LEANDRO TROSSARD (MARTINELLI, 74) – 6

Provided a burst of energy with a few quality crosses after Young began to tire on the left.

The promising young talent declared: “We aim to win trophies this season.”

“That’s our goal; we want to strive for victory, and being in the hunt for trophies is key to achieving that, so we are hopeful.”

Regarding Tierney, he is set to leave the club for free after a time at the Gunners marred by injuries.

Tierney made his first return after six months against Palace on Wednesday but regrettably left the match with another injury.

Arsenal has chosen not to activate the one-year extension in the Scottish player’s contract, which is due to expire this summer.
