Wright, who has dropped to No.17 in the world rankings this year, secured a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Plaisier, advancing to the third round at Ally Pally.

Wright, 54, remarked: “I’ve missed all of you; I’ve truly missed these interviews post-win. I was in control of the match and then suddenly lost concentration.

“It was due to the guys playing music during the break; they played Angels by Robbie Williams, a song I absolutely adore.

“I could hear my daughter singing it in my mind for the first time, and that just threw me off.

“But I managed to push through, and that’s what counts.”

It’s unclear which daughter Wright was referring to, as he has raised both Naomi and Jessie with his wife Joanne, alongside their son Tristan.

Snakebite previously shared that Jessie, 30, influenced his iconic mohawk hairstyle.

Wright also expressed his gratitude to the audience for “supporting him throughout the match” against Dutchman Plaisier, 34.

Wright will face in-form Jermaine Wattimena next, who recently beat James Wade, in the third round after Christmas.

He stated: “I hope my class remains consistent, though my form may vary.

“I’d like for Wattimena’s form to drop back to average after< |span id="61b88d0d-7970-4bb7-8b1a-24695366f97b" class="suggested-link">Christmas so I can take him down.

“But it’s fantastic to see Jermaine performing at such a high level; I genuinely commend him. I have to significantly improve my game to match his standard.”

Wright also declared a strong retirement position, asserting his intent to conquer teen sensation Luke Littler.

When asked if he ever had doubts about reversing his results, Wright replied: “No. Some people suggest I should retire and switch to the seniors’ circuit.

“I’m not ready for that yet. I’m here to challenge Luke Littler and Luke Humphries.”

Regarding his goals for the tournament, Wright shared: “Naturally, I aim to win it. My form may not be at its peak, but I believe I can achieve victory.”

Humphries and darts prodigy Littler are among the favorites to claim the title at Ally Pally.

Wright concluded: “What drives me? Luke Humphries and Luke Littler are my motivation.

“I know I can still compete with them; what I’m doing in practice confirms I can not only compete but excel.”
