Under the guidance of Fadlu Davids, Simba SC has narrowed the gap to just two points behind Azam FC, the leaders of the NBC Tanzanian Premier League, following a convincing 2-0 win against the struggling KenGold at KMC Complex Stadium on Wednesday.

Forward Ateba Mbida, a recent addition from USM Alger in Algeria, kicked off the scoring in the 35th minute and netted his second goal just 10 minutes later, ensuring a comfortable victory and three crucial points for the team.

This triumph enables Davids’ team to sustain their quest for the title, having achieved six consecutive league victories since suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to their rivals, Young Africans, in October.

Throughout this remarkable streak, Simba has scored a total of 12 goals without allowing any in return, further boosting their aspirations for the championship. The last time the club claimed the Tanzanian title was during the 2020/21 season before being dethroned.

Since then, the 22-time Tanzanian league champions have seen Yanga take the spotlight, winning four consecutive titles while Simba finished as runners-up for three consecutive seasons, and third last year, which earned them a spot in the CAF Confederations Cup.

With this recent win, Davids’ squad climbs to second place in the league standings, amassing 31 points from 12 matches. Moreover, The Reds of Msimbazi have three games in hand compared to the current leaders due to participation in continental competitions.

Next, Simba will face Kagera Sugar in an away match at Kaitaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon, aiming to enhance their tally of 24 goals this season while upholding their stellar defensive record, having conceded only three goals and recorded 10 clean sheets.
