MANCHESTER UNITED player Alejandro Garnacho has been reinstated to the squad for the Carabao Cup clash against Tottenham after being omitted from the latest Manchester derby against City.
However, Marcus Rashford remains sidelined; he was also absent from Sunday’s fixture at the Etihad, as decided by United’s coach, Ruben Amorim.
Garnacho, at 20, was spotted with a snood over his mouth and a black beanie while the team was gearing up for their trip to London for the quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday.
Numerous players from the Red Devils made their journey to Stockport train station using a coach after gathering at the airport car park.
In contrast, Rashford, aged 27, was not present at the meeting point for the Manchester team.
Meanwhile, Amorim and several other players drove directly to the station.
This follows the England international’s strong suggestion that he might consider leaving Man Utd, expressing he’s ready for a “new challenge.”
The forward also reported feeling unwell during training on Monday, which led Amorim to grant the team a break on Tuesday.
Regardless, Amorim has confirmed that both Garnacho and Rashford might be back in the squad for the match against Tottenham.
Amorim stated, “If they show good training form, I’ll have to make a decision. We’ll assess it at the conclusion of training.”
“Naturally [I expect a response]. I demand the best from each player every day, so we’ll evaluate after today’s training.”
Amorim was somewhat ambiguous regarding the reasoning behind Garnacho and Rashford’s absence during the 2-1 victory over City, insisting it was not due to disciplinary issues.
The Man Utd manager conveyed, “It’s important to clarify that the omission was not due to discipline. For the upcoming match, they’ll be vying for their places in the squad.”
“However, my focus is on training performance, how players perform in matches, their conduct, dietary choices, their camaraderie with teammates, and how they support one another.”
“All these details are crucial as we strive to raise our standards, particularly during a period of change when some individuals at our club are being let go.”
“Players must earn their places in the team, and today, the team illustrated its capability to thrive, even in the absence of certain members, if they work cohesively.”
“I want to reiterate—this was not a discipline-related issue. It’s about the finer details. Watching the matches, there are adjustments we need to make.”
“But this marks a fresh beginning; it’s not about discipline but about training and match performance that informs my selection choices.”
“If it had been a disciplinary matter, I would state that here, and it would be a far more serious issue, but that’s not the situation.”
“My goal is solely to improve my players. With Rash, we’ve tried various approaches, and it hasn’t yielded results—should we continue the same strategy or explore new options?”
“It’s as simple as that. If they commit fully, capitalizing on their talent will significantly enhance our performance with both of them on the pitch. Nevertheless, they need to put in the effort, and they did today; their training was intense, which is a positive sign. A new week creates new possibilities; let’s see how it unfolds.”
