OBAN ELLIOTT is preparing to take on substantial challenges against the leading fighters in the welterweight division in the upcoming year.
Known as ‘The Welsh Gangster,’ he has wrapped up his first year in MMA with an impeccable 3-0 record, securing his spot in the sport’s top promotion via Dana White‘s Contenders Series last August.
Elliott wrapped up an impressive year with a thrilling third-round knockout against Bassil Hafez at UFC 309 at Madison Square Garden last month.
But 2024 got even better for the Shore Mixed Martial Arts talent recently.
At just 25 years old, Elliott was awarded his Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt by UK MMA pioneer Richard Shore.
Overjoyed with this accomplishment, Elliott announced on X: “BJJ brown belt that’s no joke.”
“My teammates named me fighter of the year, and my coaches gave me knockout of the year for my MSG fight, Brutha!”
“At my gym’s year-end awards, the most prestigious ceremony on the planet, 2024 will be unforgettable, Brutha.”
He is set to make his return to the octagon in March, aiming for his fourth consecutive pay-per-view appearance at UFC 313 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

He already has a potential rival in mind for his next bout – the inaugural BMF titleholder Jorge Masvidal.
Elliott has openly expressed his desire to face the fan-favorite in the octagon next year.
Earlier this month, he remarked: “There’s not a long-haired man on this planet that I need to be concerned about, brutha.”
“Miami it is! @GamebredFighter.”
After seeing his idol Chael Sonnen support Colby Covington during the last fight of 2024 last weekend, he reiterated his eagerness to compete against Masvidal.
Elliott tweeted on X: “A great move on our part this weekend. Chael in Colby’s corner just to annoy Masvidal.”
“I want to irritate him enough so he accepts Chael’s challenge.”
“Jorge realizes the only way he can get to Chael is through me.”
“Therefore: Me vs. @GamebredFighter in Miami YOU’RE WELCOME.”
Elliott has always aspired to wear UFC gold someday, stating that the “sky’s the limit” for what he can achieve in the promotion.
At his UFC 309 post-fight press conference, he remarked: “I will continue to strive ahead. With every fight, my skills improve.”
“Each time I face the scale and handle the weight cut, I grow personally. I just fought a challenging opponent.”
“The fans relished that clash…. Huge respect for Bassil, but we’re merely skimming the surface.”
“I’ve drawn up a long-term career blueprint, and it’s slowly becoming a reality for everyone to see.”
