Good evening and welcome to SunSport’s live blog for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year!
This prestigious event is taking place at the BBC Sport headquarters in MediaCity, Salford.
Keely Hodgkinson stands as the frontrunner for the coveted award thanks to her outstanding accomplishments in the 800m event.
The Team GB star secured a gold medal in the 800m at the Paris Olympics earlier this year.
The Atherton local also claimed the European title in Rome just two months before her performance in France.
Hodgkinson set a new British national record, making her the sixth fastest woman ever.
Another strong candidate for Sports Personality of the Year is teenage darts sensation Luke Littler, who finished as a runner-up at the World Darts Championship in January, catapulting him into the limelight as one of the sport’s leading players.
Since his remarkable performance at Alexandra Palace, Littler has garnered ten PDC titles in his debut year on the professional scene.
The 17-year-old is on a quest to become the youngest recipient of this prestigious award in over 60 years. Additionally, England and Real Madrid footballer Jude Bellingham is among the prominent names competing for the title of BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
