AmaZulu Football Club has officially welcomed versatile defender Sandile Mthethwa and experienced central midfielder Bongani Zungu as they prepare for the upcoming second half of the Betway Premiership season.

Both athletes have signed permanent agreements as free agents after successfully completing their medical checks. Club President Sandile Zungu warmly welcomed them during the AmaZulu Fan Experience event held on Tuesday afternoon. Mthethwa, originally from Empangeni in northern KwaZulu-Natal, joins AmaZulu after a recent stint with Orlando Pirates.

The defender conveyed his pride and dedication to building a legacy at Usuthu. “I am committed to making a significant contribution to the history of AmaZulu, honoring my family name, and aiding the club in reclaiming a spot in the top four,” Mthethwa remarked.

He also extended his gratitude to the club for their persistent interest in his signing. “I appreciate AmaZulu for having faith in me. I am aware there were previous efforts to bring me here, and now that I’m finally here, I want to repay that faith through hard work on the field,” he shared.

“This club holds a significant place in my heart as it’s only a two-hour drive from my hometown, Empangeni—so I feel at home already. I recognize the journey ahead will be tough, but I pledge to give my all for this badge.”

Veteran midfielder Zungu, who previously played for Mamelodi Sundowns and has extensive experience, brings valuable knowledge to AmaZulu. He is eager to contribute his skills under the leadership of co-coaches Arthur Zwane and Vusumuzi Vilakazi.

“My primary objective is to assist the team in achieving the highest possible league position, support the younger players, and share my experiences with the team,” Zungu mentioned.

The midfielder, hailing from Duduza, situated east of Johannesburg, expressed his aspiration to add to AmaZulu’s trophy cabinet.

“Throughout my career, I have celebrated trophy successes, and I aim to instill that winning mentality here. I understand what it takes to succeed, and that remains my goal,” he noted.

“I’m also enthusiastic about being guided by Arthur Zwane and Vusi Vilakazi. I have observed AmaZulu’s games, and the team employs a modern style of play. I believe my understanding of the game can benefit the squad, although I know I must work diligently to secure my place.”
