The darts community is mourning the loss of Donna Mardle.

Donna was the beloved partner of Sky Sports commentator and former player Wayne Mardle.

The announcement of Donna’s death came at the start of the 2025 World Darts Championship, where Wayne is recognized as the voice of the tournament.

During a touching opening segment on the broadcast, Sky Sports Darts host Emma Paton remarked: “If you’re a regular viewer of Sky Sports Darts, you’ll notice Wayne is absent tonight.

“Wayne embodies everything we do here at Sky Sports Darts.

“Sadly, the heart of his world, his wonderful wife Donna, passed away earlier this week following a brief illness.

“We will pay tribute to Donna throughout this tournament. Wayne, you are in our thoughts and hearts, and we deeply care for you. We look forward to seeing you soon.”

It has been reported that Wayne will not join the Sky broadcasting team – where he has been a pivotal figure – for the time being.

Who was Donna Mardle?

Donna Mardle, previously known as Hyde, passed away at the young age of 52 after a short illness.

She and Wayne were married for 22 years and lived in Essex.

Nearly seven years ago, Wayne announced on social media that Donna had triumphed over cancer.

He tweeted: “I don’t usually disclose personal matters, but I have to tell everyone that my wife Donna is now CANCER FREE!!! We are incredibly joyful. #BEATEN.”

On July 24, 2024, Wayne paid homage to his wife as they celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary.

He wrote: “On April 30, 1988, I asked Donna Hyde to be my girlfriend.

“She enthusiastically said yes. Ha.

“Today marks our 22nd wedding anniversary. She is celebrating by going to Gibraltar with the girls for a week.”
