Devin Titus breathed new life into Stellenbosch’s CAF Confederation Cup aspirations with a stunning last-minute goal against Desportivo Lunda-Sul at Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda on Sunday.

The South African side demonstrated their superiority for most of the match but struggled to turn their chances into goals, leading to visible frustration. In the dying moments, Fawaaz Basadien delivered an accurate cross into the penalty area, which Titus expertly headed in, marking Stellenbosch’s first victory in the group stage of this esteemed second-tier CAF club competition.

Stellenbosch had ample opportunities to take a commanding lead but squandered several significant chances. Jayden Adams hit the crossbar with a powerful shot, leaving goalkeeper Nayan Lima helpless. Sanele Barns was also denied by a diving Lima, who subsequently blocked Ashley Cupido’s effort from close range.

Earlier in the game, Titus himself hit the woodwork following a magnificent pass from Adams, a missed chance that could have been costly had the match ended in a stalemate or defeat.

As the tension grew, Basadien executed a well-placed cross that slipped past defenders, allowing Titus to head the ball with conviction into the net, securing a crucial win for Barker’s team. Notably, this was their first goal of the group stage as well.

Stellenbosch entered this matchup after suffering two consecutive losses: 2-0 against Stade Malien and 3-0 against RS Berkane.

This vital win propels Stellenbosch to third place in Group B, while Sul finds themselves languishing at the bottom of the table with only one point from three matches. Berkane currently leads the group with six points from two games, followed by Malien with four points. These two teams are set to clash later in Morocco.
