Emma Paton, the SKY SPORTS darts host, appeared to be overwhelmed with emotions as she shared the tragic news of the passing of Wayne Mardle’s wife.
This evening, the 30-year-old Paton made a live TV announcement about the death of Donna Mardle, who lived in Essex. She passed away at the age of 52 after a brief illness, just prior to the commencement of the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship at Ally Pally.
The presenter then visibly became emotional as she offered her support to darts legend Wayne, conveying that he is in the team’s thoughts and hearts.
Paton remarked: “If you’re a regular viewer of Sky Sports Darts, you may have noticed that Wayne isn’t present with us tonight.
“Wayne embodies the essence of everything we do at Sky Sports Darts.
“Unfortunately, the center of his world, his remarkable wife Donna, passed away earlier this week after a brief illness.
“We will honor Donna throughout this tournament. Wayne, our thoughts are with you and you will forever hold a special place in our hearts. We love you dearly, and we hope to see you soon.”
Wayne, who has made five semi-final appearances at the world level across both BDO and PDC circuits, was expected to participate at Ally Pally this Christmas and has been a familiar face in Sky TV’s coverage.
It’s reported that the 51-year-old will be absent from the team, where he has played a crucial role, for the foreseeable future.
Sky Sports released a statement expressing: “Sky Sports extends its heartfelt thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences to our commentator Wayne Mardle following the loss of his wife Donna earlier this week.”
Nearly seven years ago, Wayne posted on social media that Donna had fought and defeated cancer.
The PDC also shared a touching message to the darts legend as the tournament approached.
The statement read: “All our thoughts and condolences are with Wayne Mardle and his family after the passing of his wife Donna this week.”
