ROY KEANE believes that a departure from Manchester United could be the most beneficial option for Marcus Rashford, especially after his surprising omission from today’s derby at the Etihad.

Old Trafford legend Keane comments that “it doesn’t look promising” for the forward’s future and suggests that his attitude is rightly coming under examination.

Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were omitted from the squad for Sunday’s clash against a struggling City side.

United’s manager Ruben Amorim stated that his team selection was not intended to “send a message.”

Nonetheless, Amorim acknowledged: “We evaluate many factors – training, on-pitch performance, relationships with teammates, and how they inspire one another.”

In light of all this, Keane asserts that Rashford’s exclusion should not come as a “shock.”

He told Sky Sports: “It’s important to see how the players bounce back from this major disappointment of being left out for such an important match – a strong choice by the manager… he’s setting a benchmark for the squad.

“A transfer could be greatly beneficial for Marcus.

“Having been at the club for a substantial period, a new challenge might serve him well.”

The former midfield powerhouse indicates that the ongoing issues surrounding Rashford, 27, have been brewing for some time.

He concluded: “Regardless of one’s talent, if attitude is lacking at a top club, as it has been in his case lately… Sometimes parting ways is the best solution.”

The former manager of Sunderland and Ipswich acknowledges that excluding a hometown player from such a match will undoubtedly attract significant attention.

Keane remarked: “This is a setback for him. We’ve predicted this.

“Discussions around Marcus have been ongoing for a year or two, focusing on his attitude and certain off-field concerns.

“His body language on the bench during his recent substitution in Europe was noteworthy, alongside other signals.

“With a new manager and staff at the club, these details won’t go unnoticed.

“This will be a significant topic of conversation, considering he had played in all the previous matches.

“Amorim must have observed something troubling, leading him to this decision.

“Although he (Rashford) may have started with a clean slate after Amorim’s arrival, it’s evident that Amorim is not happy with what he has seen.”
