ANGE POSTECOGLOU appeared sharp upon returning to Glasgow – and then Dejan ‘Decky’ Kulusevski left his mark.

Kulusevski, who came off the bench, rescued his manager with a late equalizer, cancelling out Hamza Igamane’s initial goal.

However, former Celtic manager Postecoglou narrowly evaded defeat at Ibrox thanks to another old Bhoy, Fraser Forster, who made a stunning late save to deny Cyriel Dessers.

A loss would have further deepened the crisis for Postecoglou’s injury-ravaged Spurs.

While their performance was less than convincing, they managed to secure a draw and something to build on.

Postecoglou remarked on Wednesday that the injury woes plaguing his squad are the most severe he has faced “by a fair stretch.”

Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, and Ben Davies joined Guglielmo Vicario, Wilson Odobert, Mikey Moore, and Richarlison on the casualty list, leaving him remarkably low on centre-backs.

This situation resulted in 18-year-old Archie Gray, a lifelong Celtic follower due to his family’s passionate loyalty to the Bhoys, starting in central defense alongside the last available option, Radu Dragusin.

The great-nephew of Scottish icon Eddie Gray primarily plays as a defensive midfielder.

However, Postecoglou has frequently utilized him at full-back and brought him into the center for this match.

Gray’s Celtic ties seemed largely unnoticed by the Gers supporters, as evident from his reception.

Conversely, Fraser Forster was well-known to them, receiving jeers throughout the match.

Forster, stepping in for the injured Guglielmo Vicario, enjoyed his peak years at Celtic Park, including a memorable performance against Lionel Messi’s Barcelona in 2012.

The 36-year-old has filled in adequately during Vicario’s absence, making a vital save early on to deny Nedim Bajrami.

While Forster seemed sharp, his outfield teammates appeared to struggle.

Twice, Gray tried to push the ball forward but lost possession with misplaced passes.

Similarly, Pedro Porro made a careless pass that initiated a Gers attack, culminating in Mohamed Diomande sending his shot over the bar.

And many would prefer to forget Timo Werner’s attempt to control a precise long ball from Forster.

Postecoglou’s choice to place his struggling captain Son Heung-min in the midfield, while keeping the £65million striker Dominic Solanke on the bench, raised eyebrows.

Unfortunately for Son, he struggled to make an impact against Philippe Clement’s defense, which lost center-back John Souttar to injury shortly before halftime.

This match felt nostalgic for former England goalkeepers, with Jack Butland guarding the goal for the hosts, while Forster stood in for Spurs.

Butland’s distribution was questionable despite making a crucial save against Brennan Johnson, who was offside during the incident.

Spurs’ performance was uninspiring, while Rangers looked ineffective aside from Forster’s steady save from Vaclav Cerny’s shot just before the break.

Postecoglou had legitimate concerns about his extensive injury list, yet the team fielded in this match was not devoid of talent.

However, the demanding game schedule and limited player rotation left them appearing fatigued.

One player particularly lacking in confidence—and indeed quality—was Werner.

It was hardly surprising when he was substituted at halftime, with star player Kulusevski brought in to inject some energy into Postecoglou’s sluggish squad.

However, they did not awaken in time to prevent Igamane from calmly finishing James Tavernier’s cross just two minutes into the second half.

This goal sent Ibrox into a frenzy, with many devoted supporters bouncing excitedly behind Forster’s goal.

Things could have worsened just ten minutes later had Diomande’s low shot not skimmed past the wrong side of the post.

In the meantime, Brennan Johnson squandered a vital chance to equalize, sending a cutback wide, much to Postecoglou’s visible frustration on the sidelines.

This incident marked Johnson’s final significant action as he was replaced an hour into the match as part of a triple substitution that brought in Dominic Solanke, Pape Sarr, and 18-year-old Lucas Bergvall.

It appeared Spurs were on the verge of suffering their first defeat to a Scottish team in 18 years.

However, when Solanke delivered a pass across the box that James Maddison protected, Kulusevski was positioned to strike in the equalizer.

This saved Postecoglou from a dismal outcome—even though his beleaguered side looked anything but convincing on the field of his old rival.
