Manqoba Mngqithi has expressed his disbelief regarding his unexpected dismissal from Mamelodi Sundowns.
On Tuesday, Sundowns officially announced their decision to part ways with Mngqithi, attributing the move to unsatisfactory performance results.
OPINION: Sundowns are heading toward self-destruction.
During the same press conference, which was graced by club chairman Tlhopie Motsepe and technical director Berg Flemming, Sundowns revealed the appointment of Miguel Cardoso as the new head coach of the club.
In a conversation with Robert Marawa on 947 FM, Mngqithi reflected on his time with the Brazilians, expressing gratitude towards the club for their support throughout his tenure.
“Throughout my coaching career, I’ve often found myself in cyclical patterns of being a head coach, both coming and going. However, I want to express my gratitude for what Sundowns has provided me over the years,” Mngqithi stated.
“I refuse to adopt a negative mindset now that our relationship has concluded, as I wouldn’t have achieved so much at Sundowns without their support. My stay has been lengthy, filled with enjoyment, numerous trophies, and memorable moments alongside various coaches,” he elaborated.
Mngqithi expressed pride in his accomplishments with Sundowns during his over decade-long tenure at the club.
“Even in my recent experience, I had a fantastic technical team that gave it their all. I sit here with pride, knowing I contributed my best, without any regrets or feelings of ‘what if’.”
“Regarding the losses we experienced, particularly in cup matches, I believe the Stellenbosch games were disappointing as I could have performed better during my early days at the club.”
“Despite that, in every match we played, we gave our best effort, and even in those we lost, we deserved to win by significant margins,” Mngqithi continued.
“The most recent match was among the toughest this season. Not many seem to be acknowledging the strength of our opponents, but I think it would be a mistake to underestimate ASFAR in the Champions League.”
As previously reported by Phakaaathi, Mngqithi may be announced as the new head coach for Golden Arrows this week.
