Reports indicate that Mabhuti Khenyeza has resigned from his position as co-coach of Golden Arrows amid ongoing disputes and allegations of a toxic work environment.

The former forward for Kaizer Chiefs, SuperSport United, and Mamelodi Sundowns, who has enjoyed multiple stints with the team, felt that his authority was being undermined, impairing his ability to fulfill his responsibilities effectively.

Khenyeza was working as co-coach alongside Musa Bilankulu and Kagisho Dikgacoi.

Upon his exit, the club was ranked sixth in the Betway Premiership standings with 13 points accumulated from eight matches.

Khenyeza initially exited Arrows in 2007 to join Chiefs, only to return to the Durban team in 2015, when they were competing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

He played a crucial role in assisting Arrows’ promotion back to the top flight under coach Shaun Bartlett.

Khenyeza left the club in 2016 due to differences with then-coach Clinton Larsen.

He subsequently joined AmaZulu, where he completed his playing career in 2018, and then took on the role of assistant coach at Maritzburg United (now Durban City) under Muhsin Ertugral.

After that stint, he returned to AmaZulu as an assistant and later served as the DStv Challenge coach for TS Galaxy, which led to his return to Arrows in 2021.

During his time, he was the assistant to Lehlohonolo Seema until Seema’s dismissal in March 2022 after a significant loss to Sundowns.

Khenyeza finished the 2021/22 season as co-caretaker alongside Vusi Vilakazi.

When Vilakazi left in September 2023, Khenyeza continued with Steve Komphela, who later departed for Sundowns at the start of the current season.

“Khenyeza is no longer a member of the team,” stated a source.

“He was not let go, but there were ongoing disagreements concerning his work, leading him to feel that the environment had become toxic.”

“As a coach, he had specific expectations and outlined how he wanted to operate, which prompted his decision to leave. He wasn’t terminated; he opted to part ways with the club.”

“The atmosphere was not conducive for him. It’s important to clarify this, as Khenyeza believes he has upheld a high level of professionalism despite the challenges he faced. His affection for Arrows makes this situation particularly painful for him.”

“Ultimately, Khenyeza was dissatisfied at Arrows, and I can confirm he is no longer connected with the club.”

Arrows have been approached for a comment, but no response has been received by the time of publication.

Khenyeza, now 42, is considered one of the top strikers in the PSL, having netted over 100 goals. He is especially recalled for scoring the fastest goal in history, just 19 seconds into the Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Chiefs in November 2007, witnessed by FIFA officials, including former FIFA president Sepp Blatter, at Kings Park Stadium ahead of the 2010 World Cup preliminary draw in Durban.

Another significant achievement for Khenyeza was scoring two goals that helped Ajax Cape Town clinch the Carling Knockout title in the 2008/09 season, triumphing over Pirates at Chatsworth Stadium.
