Xing will automatically advance to the second round.

O’Sullivan’s decision to withdraw comes merely a day before his scheduled match.

He has not participated since being eliminated in the first round of the UK Championship by Barry Hawkins, who made it to the final.

The Rocket appeared frustrated during that match, as he struck the table, though he praised his opponent after the loss.

He said: “Barry played brilliantly and deserved his win, so all the credit goes to him.

“He stayed consistent and took advantage of his chances.

“I’m simply enjoying playing, and that’s what counts. I focus on the next challenge instead of what’s gone by.”

At 48, O’Sullivan may be looking to save his energy for the Riyadh Season Snooker Championship, set for December 18-20.
