RIO FERDINAND has urged Manchester United to part ways with the “s***” players currently on the team.
The former Red Devils defender highlighted the importance of the club being decisive with its player roster.
Ferdinand, 46, remains hopeful that the ownership will take the same decisive measures with the underperforming players as they have with the directors.
His pointed criticism follows the move to dismiss sporting director Dan Ashworth after only five months.
He remarked: “Confusion is the first thing that comes to mind.
“I just hope that they’re as unyielding with the players who have overstayed their welcome or are simply not good enough, as they have been with the staff who have been around for years and are now being let go.
“If there are any underperforming players, they need to be cut from the squad just as firmly.
“I hope they will act accordingly. For better or worse, they have at least made a clear decision.

“That’s how I see it. However, looking around, there’s a lot of turbulence at the club.
Inside Man Utd chaos amidst Ashworth’s departure
THE blame game has claimed another victim as things spiral out of control at Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s first sporting director, Dan Ashworth, joined in the summer but has left before Christmas.
SunSport revealed exclusively last month that tensions were escalating.
The new senior management team had begun to shift blame onto one another for the difficulties the club encountered.
Chief executive Omar Berrada and Ashworth insisted they were not at fault as they came on board too late after fulfilling their respective gardening leaves.
New part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe maintained that decision-making power resided with them, while Jason Wilcox labeled the situation as chaotic under former manager Erik ten Hag, despite being part of the group that encouraged him to stay when other candidates bowed out.
Reports suggest that Ashworth did not support the appointment of his successor and new head coach Ruben Amorim, advocating instead for an English manager with greater experience, hence the frequent mention of Gareth Southgate following their time with the FA.
Nonetheless, Saturday’s match against Nottingham Forest, coming on the heels of a disappointing second-half performance against Arsenal, proved to be too much.
“Ticket prices are rising, over 250 staff members have been let go, and the leadership is resolute.
“They’re saying, ‘We’re proceeding with this regardless of the pushback’.”
Ashworth’s departure was announced following confrontational discussions amidst a club locked in a blame game for the poor start to the season.
Manchester United delivered the news of his sacking through a terse 53-word statement, claiming it was a “mutual decision”.
Gary Neville criticized the statement as “not a good look” in his pointed commentary.
The Red Devils’ sluggish start to the Premier League season led to the dismissal of Erik ten Hag as manager.
The Dutchman was fired following the defeat to West Ham in October, and was succeeded by Ruben Amorim.
Since Amorim’s arrival, the team’s performance has been erratic.
His first match resulted in a 1-1 draw against Ipswich, followed by victories against Bodo/Glimt and Everton.
However, the club has yet to secure a win in their last three games, with the latest concluding in a 3-2 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest.
