Supporters of MILLWALL are appealing to Jose Mourinho to adhere to his earlier comments after he jokingly expressed interest in the managerial position at the Den.
The Lions are actively seeking a new manager following the resignation of Neil Harris for the second time, previously stepping down in 2019.
Harris will conclude his second stint, which lasted only 10 months, following Saturday’s match against Middlesbrough, also marking his last game leading Millwall this Wednesday against Sheffield United.
Mourinho mentioned in October that he would welcome a return to English football after his tenures with Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham.
The Special One referred to Millwall as a surprising club he would consider managing, primarily because of its proximity to his London residence.
When asked about managing teams in relegation battles, the Fenerbahce boss responded: “Millwall. Millwall. I just cross the bridge from my house! Millwall.”
Millwall fans haven’t overlooked the former Real Madrid manager’s comments, taking to social media to urge him to take this opportunity and fulfill his pledge.
One enthusiastic fan tweeted: “Jose, we await your arrival.”
Another added: “Let’s see if Mourinho was genuinely interested.”
A third supporter remarked: “Mourinho made the claim. He must now act or risk looking foolish.”
One fan commented: “Jose Mourinho, a man can dream.”
Another said: “Jose Mourinho is destined to take over from Neil Harris at Millwall… You heard it here first.”
However, Mourinho later clarified that his remarks were made in jest, confirming he is not looking to manage clubs that are at risk of relegation.
Currently, Millwall sits in 11th place in the Championship table, relatively safe from relegation threats, though they faced such risks last season.
Mourinho added: “I’m never going to a team fighting relegation. It’s too demanding.
“It’s harder than competing for titles. The emotional burden is significant because it alters lives.
“I admire the brave individuals who tackle that challenge. I’ve managed three clubs in England across four different periods, and I cherish my time there.
“My family lives in London; it’s home. One day, I hope to return unless I’m not wanted.
“But to be clear, for the next two years, no one will be able to remove me from Fenerbahce.”
