Durban City has taken the top spot in the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings after achieving a dominant 3-0 victory over Leruma United, with Samkelo Maseko scoring twice and Saziso Magawana adding another goal at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday.

Conversely, Milford FC fell to fourth place following a 1-1 draw against Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium, which also allowed the promotion-chasing Lidoda Duvha to maintain their position in fifth place.

The two teams from KZN are set to face off in a pivotal top-of-the-table encounter on Sunday, 14 December, as the competition for the second-tier title heats up. JDR Stars quickly rose to second place, securing a slender 1-0 win over Hungry Lions at Soshanguve Giant Stadium.

In mid-table action, the newly promoted Kruger United extended their unbeaten streak to six matches with a 3-1 away win against Upington City, moving up three places to seventh while Upington plummeted to 11th after a seven-match winless streak.

In another development, the University of Pretoria experienced a setback in their pursuit of promotion, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Casric Stars at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium, leaving them eight points adrift of the leaders. At the bottom of the table, Venda FC is still struggling, remaining in last place as they fight to avoid being relegated.

The Vhembe-based team endured a 4-2 defeat against Baroka FC at Global Stadium. Pretoria Callies had their late comeback attempts thwarted by Lethabo Modimoeng, who restored Orbit College’s lead in stoppage time, culminating in a 3-2 victory at TUT Stadium on Sunday afternoon, leaving Callies in 13th place with 13 points.

As they strive to bounce back after relegation from the top division, Cape Town Spurs continue to struggle, having failed to win a league match in their last nine attempts, with their latest setback being a 1-0 defeat against newcomers Highbury FC.

The Urban Warriors find themselves precariously positioned in 14th place, sharing 10 points with 15th-placed Leruma and just ahead of Venda FC, as they prepare for an upcoming relegation battle against Callies in their next match on Friday, 13 December.
