Kaizer Chiefs recorded their fourth defeat of the league season, losing 2-0 to Polokwane City in the Betway Premiership match at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.

Oswin Appollis scored the opening goal in the first half from a challenging angle, while Mokibelo Ramabu added a second goal in the 90th minute, ensuring a successful outing for Polokwane.

In the early stages of the game, both Chiefs and Polokwane displayed their abilities, with City coming close to scoring in the 13th minute when Douglas Mapfumo’s header narrowly missed the target.

Appollis gave the home side the lead in the 17th minute, marking his first goal of the season as a Bafana Bafana forward.

Amakhosi had their first real opportunity in the 28th minute, but Yusuf Maart’s shot from outside the box went off target. Nasreddine Nabi’s team aimed for another goal after the 35-minute mark, but Rise and Shine’s defense held firm.

The first half wrapped up with a scoreline of 1-0 in favor of the home team. Before the second half commenced, Nabi made three substitutions, introducing Thatayaone Dithlokwe, Teboho Potsane, and Mfundo Vilakazi to replace Bradley Cross, Wandile Duba, and Gaston Sirino in a bid to shift the momentum of the match.

Chiefs squandered several opportunities in the first 15 minutes of the second half, failing to convert any of them.

Polokwane had a clear-cut chance in the 66th minute; however, Hlayisi Chauke’s header went straight into the hands of Brandon Petersen.

Tebogo Potsane came close to leveling the score for Amakhosi in the 82nd minute, but his effort hit the crossbar. Just two minutes later, Ashley Du Preez had a chance of his own, but his bicycle kick flew over the bar.
