RESPLENDENT GREY (2.33 Sandown, nap)
Has made a seamless transition to chasing this season. Olly Murphy’s six-year-old showcased an impressive performance, winning by a comfortable five lengths on debut at Uttoxeter in October with solid jumping. He further validated his talent when challenged with tougher competition at Cheltenham last month. Under today’s jockey, Sean Bowen, he traveled well and was poised to win that Listed prize, but a novice error at the last fence led to a narrow half-length defeat. This three-mile distance suits him perfectly, and there’s still plenty of potential to uncover.
PLANTAROMA (12.35 Sedgefield, nb)
Showed promise with a strong second on her hurdles debut and looks poised for improvement. She finished behind a competent rival at Chepstow, who confirmed the form at Haydock on Wednesday. This race doesn’t seem more difficult, and she should achieve her first win.
IRIS DES ISSARDS (2.45 Exeter, treble)
Is likely to excel with the longer distance after a solid third-place finish over two miles at Exeter last month. This soft ground suits her well, and her handicap rating of 107 appears very reasonable. There’s more to expect following that return to action.
THE DOYEN CHIEF (1.00 Exeter)
Delivered a strong performance in his chase debut at Market Rasen last time, jumping flawlessly. He showed his best form over hurdles at this distance, and more rain will not hinder him as he thrived in testing conditions.
