Numerous individuals took to social media to pay tribute to the woman who started her journey as Manchester United’s telephone switchboard operator in 1968, during the era of Sir Matt Busby.

Beckham, who rose through the youth ranks at Old Trafford and spent over ten years on the first team, shared an emotional message online.

He recounted how Kath had made a promise to his parents, a promise that she honored throughout his time at the club.

On Instagram, alongside a photo of himself holding a woman’s hand, he stated: “Forever in our hearts.

“The first and last face I would always see was Kath sitting at reception at Old Trafford, always ready to hand me my tickets for the match. She embodied Manchester United; everyone knew Kath and everyone loved her.

“When I relocated to Manchester at 15, Kath promised my mum and dad, ‘I’ll look after your boy, don’t you worry,’ and from that very first day to the last day I was with her, that’s precisely what she did ❤️.

“Old Trafford will feel empty without your smile as we walk through those doors.

“We love you ❤️.”

Kath appeared in Beckham’s Netflix documentary released in 2023.

Her deep connection with many Manchester United players was evident in the outpouring of tributes following her passing.
