Britain’s leading equestrian star withdrew from the Paris Olympics in disgrace this summer after a video emerged showing her striking a horse 25 times on its legs with a lengthy whip.

The three-time Olympic gold medalist stated that she felt “deeply ashamed” of her “mistake in judgment” during a training session at a private facility, leading to her temporary six-month suspension from the sport.

Had she won any Olympic medals, her total would have risen to seven from four Games, surpassing Laura Kenny’s cycling record of six.

The North London-born athlete was expected to be recognized with a Damehood in the King’s New Year’s Honours List.
