Players from MANCHESTER UNITED chose not to wear a jacket in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community after Noussair Mazraoui declined to participate.
The squad was scheduled to don an Adidas jacket before their Premier League clash against Everton at Old Trafford, where Ruben Amorim’s team secured an impressive 4-0 win.
In recent seasons, United has sported pride-themed jerseys during warm-ups and jackets with similar designs when entering the pitch for matches during the Rainbow Laces campaign.
This campaign aims to encourage Premier League clubs to show their support for the LGBTQ+ community.
According to The Athletic, the Red Devils chose not to wear the walk-out jacket because Mazraoui, 27, had informed his teammates that he would not wear it due to his Muslim beliefs.
The team unanimously agreed that none of the players would wear the tracksuit to avoid singling out Mazraoui as the only one refusing the attire.
This decision was reached just hours before the match against the Toffees.
Reports suggest that some players in the locker room were not supportive of this choice.
As the captain, Bruno wore the rainbow armband, showcasing the club’s support for the Rainbow Laces campaign.
Moreover, several first-team players from both the men’s and women’s teams participated in videos promoting the campaign.
