TOTTENHAM is considering Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson as a viable option for an emergency signing in the coming months.
Patterson, 24, seems to fit the profile for Spurs, who are in search of a backup for the injured Guglielmo Vicario — particularly someone who is open to playing as a reserve.
The prominent Black Cats goalkeeper is eager to make the jump to the top tier, albeit potentially as a second-choice player.
Sunderland is likely to resist parting with Patterson while they chase promotion to the Premier League, but they typically negotiate at a reasonable price, which means a deal with Tottenham could be possible.
Spurs have also shown interest in James Trafford from Burnley, although signing the England Under-21 goalkeeper would represent a significant financial outlay.
Additionally, they are looking at Ivory Coast goalkeeper Yahia Fofana from Angers in France.
Patterson established himself as Sunderland’s first-choice goalkeeper during the 2021-2022 season.
Since then, he has made 137 appearances for the club.
Last year, Patterson received his England U21 cap as a substitute during a 2-0 defeat to Japan at St George’s Park.
He is considered one of the best goalkeepers outside of the Premier League.
Manchester United and Liverpool have previously shown interest in Patterson.
In the meantime, Tottenham and Aston Villa are competing for the young midfield talent Valentin Atangana from Reims.
