MING SHI gained significant attention last week after executing a remarkable head-kick knockout at UFC Macau.
The 30-year-old Chinese strawweight achieved a devastating stoppage, leading to her opponent Feng Xiaocan being rushed to the hospital.
Ming’s highlight reel quickly went viral on social media, earning her a $50,000 (£39k) performance of the night bonus.
The 115lbs fight marked the conclusion of the “Road to UFC” tournament, which aimed to showcase emerging MMA talent in Asia.
Following her win, Ming plans to return to her primary profession as a physician.
According to Sixth Tone, Ming was motivated to pursue a career in medicine by her grandparents.
She studied at Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine, where she focused on acupuncture.
During a TV interview from her workplace, she elaborated on her daily duties outside of the octagon.
“Each morning, I work at the hospital,” she stated. “I conduct ward rounds, engage with patients, evaluate their requirements for new prescriptions or medications, and provide treatments including traditional Chinese medicine or acupuncture.”
“I believe only a handful of my colleagues at the hospital know about my involvement in MMA during my spare time.”

Standing at just 5ft 2in, Ming, nicknamed “The Doctor”—an apt name for the UFC—demonstrated during her last fight that despite her size, she has incredible power.
After her victory, Ming exhibited great sportsmanship in her octagon interview with Michael Bisping.
“I feel very happy, but I also worry about my opponent,” she remarked. “I hope she is doing well. She is young, and I think I will be a strong competitor in the future.”
“I wish the best of luck to my next opponent.”
Ming also committed to following in the footsteps of fighters like Zhang Weili and Yan Xiaonan, “showcasing the strength of a new generation of Chinese athletes.”
Interestingly, her parents remain unaware of her rising career in the cage.
‘THEY WORRY ABOUT ME’
“I don’t think I’ll tell them,” she admitted. “My parents are quite traditional, and they are concerned about my safety.”
“To them, the only acceptable careers are a doctor or a lawyer, and they can’t consider other options. So here I am, competing in the UFC, but I suppose I will always come home after I recover.”
As Ming’s popularity continues to rise, she may find it increasingly difficult to keep this secret from her parents.
With 35,000 Instagram followers already and former two-weight champion Henry Cejudo commending her recent knockout, the pressure could mount.
‘YOU’RE A SAVAGE’
He commented on X: “It might be time to let your parents know you’re a savage!”
Despite balancing two careers, Ming radiates confidence.
She cautioned her division: “This time, and many times before, I have shown my knockout ability.”
“I plan to be a fierce competitor going forward. Best of luck to my next opponent.”
