LEYTON Orient hailed on-loan Tottenham goalkeeper Josh Keeley for their late equalizer, which pushed the FA Cup second round match against Oldham Athletic into extra time.
As the game neared the end of stoppage time and the London side teetered on the edge of an unexpected elimination by non-league adversaries, they were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area.
The 21-year-old Irish goalkeeper garnered cheers from the crowd as he made his way into the opposition’s penalty area for the set-piece.
In a remarkable feat, he managed to connect with the curling ball and directed it into the bottom corner of the net.
Joy erupted among the home fans as Keeley sprinted away in celebration following his stunning goal.
Orient had previously been trailing due to a goal from Manny Monthe, and it seemed they were on the brink of exiting the competition.
But everything changed when Keeley scored his incredible header in the 99th minute, keeping the match alive for an additional 30 minutes.
In an astonishing twist, Orient went on to secure victory in the match.
Forward Dan Agyei found the net for the decisive goal in the 121st minute, leaving the visitors hoping for a penalty shootout.
Ultimately, Keeley’s pivotal goal played a crucial role in sealing this triumph.
The Republic of Ireland U21 international joined Orient on loan in August.
He embarked on his career at St Patrick’s Athletic before moving to North London in 2022.
Though he has yet to make a first-team appearance, Keeley has excelled in Tottenham’s U21 squad.
Last season, Keeley had a loan spell at Barnet, where he made 21 appearances across all competitions.
This season, the young talent has already featured in nine matches.
