During his match with Zhang, Trump amassed an impressive 527 consecutive points, though this was just short of the record held by Ronnie O’Sullivan by 29 points.

Aiming for his first UK title since 2011, Trump first defeated Neil Robertson in the opening round before progressing against John Higgins.

However, the 35-year-old has suggested that some players are not willing to invest the effort needed to achieve success.

In an interview with the BBC, he stated: “I put the hard work in; everyone else is looking for a quick solution.

“Some players aren’t prepared to commit the long hours, and to reach the top, that’s essential.

“I do need to manage my energy at times, but I realize that once this tournament ends, regardless of the outcome, I must return to the practice table.”

Reflecting on his previous matches in York, he noted: “I barely made it through against John, and sometimes that gives you a renewed sense of purpose.

“I was aware my form was close; I just tend to play a bit too cautiously occasionally.

Trump vs Wilson

THE Class of ’92 in SNOOKER is gradually diminishing – as two English talents are set to herald a new era.

Judd Trump has declared his readiness to compete against current world champion Kyren Wilson for “the next 10 years” and beyond.

The reigning world No. 1 Trump acknowledged that Wilson’s swift rise over the past year has “inspired him to improve” as a player.

The Class of ’92 refers to the legendary trio of Ronnie O’Sullivan, John Higgins, and Mark Williamson.

With 14 world titles between them, these three players have largely dominated UK snooker for the last three decades.

However, as they begin to take a step back, Wilson and Trump are poised to fill the competitive gap.
