The upcoming Betway Premiership match between Orlando Pirates and Marumo Gallants, originally scheduled for early next month, has been postponed.
The game was set for December 3 at Toyota Stadium, but it has been called off due to a congested fixture list. This adjustment is necessary as it occurs only 48 hours prior to their match against Stellenbosch FC on December 1 at Orlando Stadium.
FIFA regulations indicate that a minimum of 72 hours must separate matches, which has resulted in the rescheduling of the Gallants game. The Premier Soccer League (PSL) will announce a new date for this fixture in due course.
This postponement may provide a significant advantage for Pirates as they prepare to take on Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League next Saturday.
Currently, Pirates lead the Betway Premiership standings with 21 points from seven matches, sitting three points ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns. Both teams are participating in the CAF Champions League group stage. While Sundowns drew their opening match against AS Maniema Union, Pirates secured a 2-1 victory over CR Belouizdad in Algeria.
This win on the road marked Pirates’ first Champions League group stage victory since their 3-0 success against Al Ahly in 2013. That season, Pirates reached the final but eventually lost to the Egyptian giants.
