Kaizer Chiefs’ head coach Nasradine Nabi commended his players for their determination in achieving a victory, even when they were down to 10 men, while also highlighting the difference in caliber between his current team and some of the previous Amakhosi line-ups.

Chiefs returned to winning form in the Betway Premiership, defeating Richards Bay 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday, despite facing a numerical disadvantage in the second half.

Goals from Wandile Duba and Ashley Du Preez early in the second half ensured the team secured all three points, elevating Chiefs to sixth place in the league standings.

In a post-match discussion with SuperSport TV, the Chiefs manager noted that although the victory was achieved, the performance on Wednesday did not fully meet the high standards expected from the team.

“It’s not solely about winning; the process must be effective. This is Kaizer Chiefs. Our goals are high. Mentally, it’s uplifting,” Nabi commented.

Despite scoring twice, the Glamour Boys did not manage to control the match and only enjoyed short periods of possession.

The Tunisian coach raised concerns about the team’s inconsistency during matches, contrasting the current squad with past legends like Doctor Khumalo and Siphiwe Tshabalala.

“While there are positive moments in games, we struggle with consistency. We need to improve our play in the final third. Although the three points are crucial for the club, it’s mentally taxing to play a half with only 10 men. The feeling is rewarding, but the performance needs work. This is Kaizer Chiefs; consider the level we reached with Tshabalala and Doctor Khumalo—that’s the benchmark we strive for,” the former Young Africans manager reflected.

In the encounter with the Natal Rich Boys, the Soweto giants attempted 18 shots, with just five on target and two scoring.

Converting scoring chances has been an ongoing issue for Chiefs since the start of the season, leading to considerable frustration.

The Chiefs coach recognized this persistent challenge, linking it to various factors, including a lack of confidence among the forwards, which is a common issue across the league.

“This is indeed a major concern for our team, and it goes beyond just this one match. Teams are crafting numerous scoring chances without finishing due to possible confidence issues among strikers or lapses in focus. However, we are dedicated to refining our approach as we move ahead.”

Following the home victory and entering a busy phase of the season after a lengthy international break, Amakhosi will now gear up for another matchup against a KwaZulu-Natal team as they prepare to host Royal AM this Saturday.
