Former Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids led Simba SC to a narrow 1-0 victory over Bravos do Maquis in a Group A match of the CAF Confederation Cup at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Wednesday.
Charles Ahoua scored the decisive goal for Simba in the 27th minute by converting a penalty. Maquis, which included South African international Abednego Mosiatlhaga, was awarded a penalty in the dying moments of the game. However, Nigerian international Emmanuel Edmond’s attempt was denied by Simba’s goalkeeper Moussa Camara.
This win was a hard-won battle for Simba, with goalkeeper Camara playing a crucial role by stopping multiple attempts from Maquis. Following this victory, Simba moves to the top of Group A with three points.
Davids is no stranger to the Confederation Cup, having previously guided Pirates to the finals in the 2022 season alongside Mandla Ncikazi, where they faced defeat against RS Berkane.
Currently leading the Tanzania Premier League with Simba, Davids is backed by two South African internationals, Wayne Sandilands and Darren Wilkens.
